Are you ready to enjoy our list of top beaches on the west side of Puerto Rico? We posted them in no particular order. They are all amazing in their own way!

1. Sandy Beach, Rincón

Sandy beach and the surrounding beaches are an amazing spot for hanging out with friends and family. You will find lots of local food joints in the area. The beach has great sand as a result most of the time the water is clean and clear. Since it is on the northwest the water is a bit cooler and has a lot of wave activity.

Ideal for:
  1. Surfing
  2. Playing beach sports
  3. Socializing
  4. Eating out
Likes:
  1. Sand: Easy for playing sports, bodysurfing, getting in the water.
  2. Vibe: Good vibe, tourist-friendly beach, you will encounter lots of US Americans.
  3. Drive: Since it’s an easy drive, you may use any type of vehicle.
  4. Activity: Hopefully you shouldn’t encounter loud music, parties, nor lots of social drinking.
  5. Shade: Has a couple of trees for shade, and if you continue walking to the next beach Don Antonio you will find even more shade, but less sand.
Dislikes:
  1. Parking: Is very limited
  2. Waves and wind: This beach is very active with waves and heavy wind most part of the year
  3. Debris: Since most beaches in PR are cleaned by nature, you might find debris in the sand.

2. Boqueron Beach, Cabo Rojo

Boqueron beach is quiet and peaceful, a perfect place to bring the family, or simply to relax by yourself. This beach has a large paid parking ($2-5 approx), as a result, you will always find a spot to park. The beach has great sand and most of the time the water is clear. Since it is in the southwest the water is warmer and very calm.

Ideal for:
  1. Playing in the sand
  2. Relax and read a book
  3. Walking on the beach
  4. Having a picnic
  5. Stand Up Paddle Boarding or Kayaking
Likes:
  1. Sand: Easy for walking on the beach, relaxing on a chair or towel.
  2. Vibe: Laid back surroundings, most of the time the beach is pretty empty during the week. On weekends you will see more traffic, but there is plenty of space for everyone.
  3. Drive: Easy to get there, and you will always find a parking spot.
  4. Activity: You shouldn’t encounter loud music, parties, or big groups unless there is a programmed concert or event.
  5. Shade: It has some trees for shade right next to the beach, and even several picnic benches.
  6. Waves and wind: This beach has no waves nor wind most part of the year.
Dislikes:
  1. Parking: A parking fee is required, must pay (mainly with cash). In addition, they close early.
  2. Debris: Since most beaches in PR are cleaned by nature, you might find debris in the sand.
  3. Walk: The beach is far from the parking lot, as a result, you must carry your belongings for a bit from the car to the beach.
  4. Jelly Fish: You might encounter Jelly Fish during some parts of the year.

3. Buyé Beach, Cabo Rojo

Buyé is a beautiful beach, a perfect place for hanging out with friends and socializing. Beautiful clear water and perfect sand. Great for taking a tan or chilling out inside the water. This beach is on the southwest of the island, therefore, the water is warmer and very calm.

Ideal for:
  1. Chilling inside the water
  2. Socializing
  3. Having a BBQ
  4. Most Water Sports
Likes:
  1. Sand: Very clean sand inside the water, perfect for relaxing and swimming.
  2. Vibe: A very social vibe, friends, music, fun in the sun type of beach.
  3. Drive: Must follow a GPS to get there, parking is limited and you will only find in specific areas.
  4. Activity: Play your music without disturbing others since most likely they also have music playing.
  5. Shade: It has trees for shade right next to the beach.
  6. Waves and wind: This beach has no or little waves and wind activity most part of the year.
Dislikes:
  1. Parking: Limited parking, and not right next to the beach.
  2. Debris: Since most beaches in PR are cleaned by nature, consequently you might find debris in the sand, but not as much as larger beaches.
  3. Walk: You must carry your belongings for a bit from the car to the beach.
  4. Activity: Be prepared to find plenty of locals, eating, drinking, and playing loud music during the weekends.

4. Borinquen Beach, Aguadilla

This is one of our favorite spots in Aguadilla, the beach has a big enough area for playing lots of different beach sports and activities. However have in mind that this beach changes a lot every season, but you will always find a nice spot in the sand to set up your umbrella and chairs. In addition, you may also take a hammock since it has plenty of trees where to hang one. Since it is in the northwest the water is choppy and a little cooler.

Ideal for:
  1. Playing sports in the sand
  2. Snorkeling
  3. Tanning
  4. Enjoying the water
Likes:
  1. Sand: Very clean sand inside and outside of the water.
  2. Vibe: A very mixed vibe, from tourists relaxing, to locals having fun, to college students goofing around, therefore you will find a very diverse population at this beach.
  3. Drive: Easy drive, it’s right next to the airport. There is enough parking right next to the beach.
  4. Activity: Great beach for playing frisbee, paddleball, beach volleyball, snorkeling, stick tossing with their dogs, or just surviving the rough waves.
  5. Shade: It has trees for shade right up the hill, where you can hang your hammock, place your belongings, or share a bench.
  6. Debris: Since this beach changes so much, you will find this beach always with clean sand with little debris.
  7. Waves and wind: Good waves and sometimes fresh wind.
Dislikes:
  1. Parking: We recommend checking your vehicle once in a while, for safety, more importantly, don’t leave anything of value visible.
  2. Walk: From the car to the sand it is a short walk, but the beach is huge, therefore you will have a long walk on the sand until you find your spot.
  3. Waves and wind: Rough waves and sometimes the wind activity will produce heavy currents.
